    A spending plan of just more than $5 million has been approved to create the first phase of the Atlantic Avenue Bridge Community — a year-round homeless shelter and service center in north Long Beach.
    In February this year, the City Council approved purchase of property at 6841-6845 Atlantic Ave. to build the shelter, paying $9.6 million. Preliminary plans call for a 125-bed shelter/transitional housing along with space for supportive services.

    The city is using $18 million in government and private grants to make sure no homes are built east of Gilbert Street in Fullerton’s West Coyote Hills.

    Orange County homebuying rose and prices increased as Southern California’s median hit an all-time high in November.
    Home sales in the county totaled 2,800 in November — up 5.1% in a year, CoreLogic/DQ News reported. Orange County’s latest sales count is 10% off the November average of 3,115 since 1988.

    Rains flood freeways in Torrance, Long Beach and Burbank areas
    As overnight rain continued into the early morning hours Monday, the onslaught of water flooded freeways in the Torrance and Long Beach areas, according to the California Highway Patrol.
    The California Highway Patrol issued a SigAlert shutting down all southbound lanes of the 110 Freeway in the Torrance/Carson area at 4:16 a.m. due to flooding. Traffic was being diverted at Carson Street. Officials canceled the SigAlert by 5:55 a.m., and all lanes were open, according to City News Service.
