    A 500-foot stretch of Upper Newport Bay at North Star Beach was closed to water activities Thursday, Sept. 26, after a sewage spill turned out to have sent more untreated waste into the bay than originally thought.
    About 750 gallons of sewage backed up in a pipe on Jamboree Road near San Joaquin Hills on Tuesday, Sept. 24, and spilled out of a manhole cover. Some 250 gallons was captured while the rest flowed into a storm drain and into the bay, said Anthony Martinez of the OC Health Care Agency

    Man pleads guilty to injuring Santa Ana police dog following high-speed chase
    A Garden Grove man pleaded guilty Thursday to carjacking a woman and leading officers on a high-speed chase that ended when he was captured by a police dog that lost some of its teeth in the pursuit.
    Antonio Padilla Jr., 38, was sentenced to 19 years and four months in state prison after pleading guilty to five felony counts, including carjacking, assault with a deadly weapon and assault on a police animal, according to the Orange County District Attorney’s Office.
