Dismal Del Mar summer meet another blow to horse racing
I wish I had better news to report, but facts are facts: Nearly halfway through its 80th summer meet, Del Mar is headed toward its worst season betting-wise since 2014.
That was the year Del Mar had trouble with its new turf course and suspended grass racing for a number of days for repairs. That year, the track was down $38.1 million in betting dollars. Not good.
The surprising part was that the dismal ’14 campaign came on the heels of two outstanding summers of racing at Del Mar. In 2012
