    Longtime Anaheim public servant Irv Pickler dies at 98
    Irv Pickler didn’t grow up in Anaheim, but after moving his young family here in 1956, he threw himself wholeheartedly into his new community.
    Pickler, a decorated World War II veteran who served on the Anaheim City Council and numerous city and nonprofit boards throughout his life, died July 17. He was 98.

    State Farm to close Irvine offices, laying off 156 workers
    The State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Co. is closing its Michelson Drive facility in Irvine in August and laying off 156 employees.
    In a June 26 Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification sent to the state Employment Development Department, Employee Relations Manager Beth Stuckey said the layoffs will take place Aug. 31 and are expected to be permanent.
    “The entire facility will be closed as a result of this action,” Stuckey said. “No bumping rights exist for employees.

    CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — Three members of a white supremacist group were sentenced Friday to between two and three years in prison for punching, kicking and choking anti-racism protesters at a white nationalist rally in Virginia and political rallies in California.

    SEATTLE — The Angels ended the Matt Harvey experiment on Friday, designating the veteran pitcher for assignment seven months and a day after they signed him to a one-year contract.
