    As California inches ever closer to a direct and potentially landscape-altering conflict with the NCAA, the state took another step Tuesday toward allowing its collegiate athletes to profit off of their names, images and likenesses.
    The Fair Pay to Play Act, which was written as a direct rebuke of the NCAA and its long-standing rule barring athletes from receiving outside compensation, passed through the state Assembly’s Higher Education Committee on Tuesday with a unanimous 9-0 vote.

    Security experts say Disneyland followed established safety protocols during a vicious family brawl that broke out in the Toontown area of the Anaheim theme park over the Fourth of July weekend.

    Man holding metal object is shot, injured by Tustin police after attempting to break in to former military base building
    A man was shot and injured Tuesday by an officer after Tustin police responded to reports of several people attempting to enter a building at the former U.S. Marine Corps Air Station, authorities said.
    Police responded to the base, in the area of Armstrong and Valencia about 8 a.m. and found one of the subjects armed with a metal object, Lt. Andrew Birozy said.
    “An officer-involved shooting occurred and officers immediately rendered first aid,” Birozy said.
