Orange County boys athlete of the week: Daniel Esparza, Sonora
The Register’s boys athlete of the week:
    Name: Daniel Esparza
    School: Sonora
    Sport: Basketball
Noteworthy: He scored a school-record 45 points in the Raiders’ 77-62 win over Troy in a Freeway League game. That broke the Sonora record of 43 points in a game, set by Robert Abreu in 2000. Sonora has had many outstanding players, including eventual UCLA and NBA player Dave Meyers. Esparza, a 6-1 sophomore, also scored 14 points in a win over Sunny Hills last week. Sonora is 17-7 overall

“We’re in playoff mode right now,” Corona del Mar coach Brason Alexander said Monday after practice. “The water doesn’t get any clearer until the end of league.”
Yes, that’s the reality in the Surf
