Last January, shortly after outperforming expectations, making an unlikely playoff run and upsetting the Chiefs in the Wild Card round, the Titans fired their head coach.
At first glance, the decision might’ve seemed odd. But the Titans knew they weren’t going anywhere with Mike Mularkey, whose uninspired offense had seemingly stalled quarterback Marcus Mariota’s development. They needed a new direction, a new coach who could get the most out of Mariota.
