    WASHINGTON — Former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort pleaded guilty Friday to two federal crimes after cutting a deal with prosecutors and agreeing to cooperate with the special counsel’s Russia probe.
    The move allows him to avoid a second criminal trial and ends Manafort’s more than yearlong fight against investigators in the Russia investigation.

    Fire tears through Orange laundromat, cause under investigation
    ORANGE – It took about 50 firefighters one hour to extinguish a fire that tore through a laundromat early Friday, Sept. 14.
    About 15 fire engines and trucks battled the 1 a.m. blaze at Chapman Avenue and Feldner Road, according to a MetroNet, a fire dispatch service.
    By 2 a.m., the fire was extinguished, with investigators trying to figure out the cause.
    No injuries were reported.

    WILMINGTON, N.C.  — Hurricane Florence made landfall in North Carolina early Friday, pushing a life-threatening storm surge of floodwater miles inland and ripping apart buildings with screaming wind and pelting rain.
    More than 60 people had to be pulled from a collapsing motel at the height of the storm, and many more who defied evacuation orders were hoping to be rescued. Pieces of buildings ripped apart by the storm flew through the air.
