    MAMMOTH MOUNTAIN   –  A major avalanche caused the closure of all lifts on Mammoth Mountain on Saturday. March 3.

  • Firefighters extinguish 2nd alarm blaze in Laguna Niguel duplex

    LAGUNA NIGUEL – Firefighters put out a second-alarm fire in a two-story duplex early Saturday, March 3.
    Firefighters dispatched at 12:38 a.m. to the 30000 block of Via Reata reported seeing flames through the roof of the two-story structure, said Capt. Stephen Horner of the Orange County Fire Authority.
    The blaze was upgraded to a second-alarm fire 17 minutes later and firefighters had the fire out at 1:02 a.m., Horner said.

  • Driver killed after car hits semi tanker truck on 91 Freeway

    A man died after his Chevrolet Impala crashed into the tanker of a semi truck that was parked along the side of the 91 Freeway late Friday night, March 2, the California Highway Patrol said.
    The man was driving the car eastbound, west of Imperial Highway, in one of the left lanes at 11:40 p.m. It was not clear why he swerved to the right and drove onto the dirt shoulder.
    He then corrected and began driving on the shoulder, before colliding with the tanker, the CHP said in a news release.

  • Isaiah Thomas helping to free Lakers from free-throw woes

    SAN ANTONIO — Isaiah Thomas did something on Thursday night in Miami that would not have been strange for any of his Lakers teammates – especially this season – but for him was a first.
    He missed a free throw as a Laker.
    Before the 2:37 mark of the second quarter of the Lakers’ 131-113 victory, Thomas had made his first 50 free-throw attempts since being traded from Cleveland.
    It is the most by a player to start his Lakers career.
