  A welding shop in Anaheim was damaged in a fire that broke out just after midnight Saturday, Jan. 27, fire officials said. No one was injured.

  Ten eldercare facilities in Laguna Niguel, Mission Viejo and Laguna Hills were slapped with a federal order to pay 72 of their workers more than $173,000 in back wages, the U.S. Labor Department announced Friday.
  The chain of homes, operating under the name Verona Court, failed to pay caregivers time-and-a-half overtime when they worked more than 40 hours a week. Hours over that amount were paid straight time, and in cash, or by separate check, according to the labor department investigation.

  The Irvine City Council will hold a special meeting Tuesday, Jan. 30, to discuss revising a ballot label for a referendum on the city’s land swap with a developer to build Orange County’s first military veterans cemetery near the I-405/I-5 interchange.
