    LONG BEACH — One person was killed and four others suffered critical injuries Friday night in a two-vehicle collision in Long Beach.
    The crash was reported at 10:33 p.m. in the area of Long Beach Boulevard and Spring Street, said Jake Heflin of the Long Beach Fire Department.

    SANTA ANA — A murder charge was dismissed Friday against a 62-year-old man accused of deliberately running over a woman in a hotel parking lot in Buena Park because the defendant has died in custody, a prosecutor said.
    Nelson Ward Jr. of Santa Ana was charged with murder, along with assault with a deadly weapon or instrument likely to produce great bodily injury. He died in mid- November “apparently from natural causes,” Senior Deputy District Attorney Troy Pino said.

    NEWPORT BEACH — A 55-year-old man pleaded guilty and was sentenced Friday to three years in prison for leading Laguna Beach police on a pursuit that prompted a non-injury officer-involved shooting.
    Richard Lyle Lewis of Redlands pleaded guilty to a theft with a prior felony conviction for car theft and leading police on a chase, both felonies. A felony charge of assault on a peace officer and a misdemeanor count of driving without a license were dropped.
