    1 vehicle lands on its roof in 3-way Newport Coast crash
    NEWPORT COAST >> The Newport Beach Fire Department responded to a three-vehicle crash on Saturday, Dec. 16 at the intersection of Newport Coast Drive and Pelican Hills Road.
    The first units to arrive on scene at shortly after 9:12 a.m. found three vehicles involved in the accident, included one vehicle that had landed on its roof.
    One person had to be extricated from a vehicle. Two people were taken to the hospital.
    The accident is under investigation. No further information was

    A woman was killed in an apartment on Fourth Street in Santa Ana on Saturday morning, police said.
    At 11:33 a.m. Saturday police received a call about a woman screaming in the 300 block of West Fourth Street in Santa Ana, in an apartment above businesses across from the federal courthouse.
    When officers arrived they found a woman had been killed, said Santa Ana Cpl. Anthony Bertagna. It was not immediately known how she was killed.

    FOUNTAIN VALLEY — A 24-year-old motorcyclist died Friday, Dec. 15, following a collision with a van, according to the Orange County Coroner Division.
    Killed in the collision around 9 a.m. near Warner Avenue and Mount Hope Street was Danny Dement III, a coroner’s  report says.  Dement’s city of residence was not listed.
    Fountain Valley Police Department officials could not immediately be reached for comment regarding details of the crash.

    Shortly before 9 p.m. Santa Ana officers attempted to pull over a stolen Nissan Sentra near the intersection of Broadway and Cubbon Street, said Santa Ana Police Cmdr. Michael Claborn.
    The vehicle pursuit went from Santa Ana to Irvine, north on the 5 Freeway and then east on the 91 Freeway, where the vehicle crashed around 9:35 p.m.

    Parents and officials at the school now have a matter of months to prepare for the switch to a charter school that will open in the fall. The company will operated the campus as a grade school for 775 students focusing on science, technology, engineering, arts and math.

    MISSION VIEJO Parents are invited to get some free time for holiday shopping while their children participate in the Mount of Olives Church’s Christmas in Kid City event Saturday, Dec. 16.
    The event, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., is for kids 3 years old through fifth grade and is $20 per child. Musical worship will be led by special guest Jana Alayra and lunch will be provided by Chick-fil-A.

    RANCHO SANTA MARGARITA Mike Vaughn, who was elected to the City Council in 2014, was elected mayor and Jerry Holloway was selected to serve as mayor pro tem.
    The elections were held at the Wednesday, Dec. 13 council  meeting.
    The City Council meets the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month, but its Dec. 27 meeting has been canceled for the holidays.

    The county is in the process of constructing a new access road and restoring a parking lot on county-owned land adjacent to Hangmans Tree Road and Santiago Canyon Road.
