    The smell of sweat and menthol pain reliever spray wafted in the cool breeze Sunday morning as runners from the JetBlue Long Beach Marathon & Half Marathon began to finish the scenic and grueling course.
    Before the weekend began, race organizers said roughly 3,000 people had signed up to run the full marathon, a 26.2-mile course, while about 13,000 had signed up for the half-marathon, a 13.1-mile course. Nearly 17,000 participated in the event overall, which included Bike Tour and the 5k run

    One person was killed and at least one other person was injured after a crash on the 405 freeway in Huntington Beach on Sunday morning.
    The incident was first reported at 9:01 a.m. as a vehicle that hit the center divider on the freeway and flipped.
    Traffic on the southbound and northbound lanes of the freeway was impacted by the single-vehicle crash on the southbound side of the freeway at Newland Street.

    A two-car crash that ended on the front porch of a Santa Ana home sent three people to the hospital, with one person critically injured.
    The crash happened at 2:56 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 8 near the intersection of Edinger Avenue and Main Street with the wreckage of one car landing on the front porch of a home, Santa Ana police Cpl. Frank Gutierrez said.

    It’s been addition by subtraction for Rams quarterback Jared Goff this season. Mostly gone are the unsteady feet, the throws into double coverage and the time spent chasing down defensive backs.
    Goff has been nearly flawless. He has attempted 117 passes with only one interception, and that miscue came during a late, desperation drive against Washington. Among quarterbacks with more than 100 attempts, only Drew Brees and Alex Smith have yet to throw an interception this season.

    LAS VEGAS — An last-minute injury to No. 6 heavyweight Derrick Lewis has caused the cancellation of his highly anticipated bout against No. 2 Fabricio Werdum at UFC 216 on Saturday at T-Mobile Arena.
    A UFC source said Lewis reportedly injured his back, which affects the main card.
    UFC ring announcer Bruce Buffer announced the fight was called off to the sparse crowd still arriving for the first fight, which was pushed from 3:30 to 4 p.m.
    The UFC has not announced which fights will be moved
