    Formed in 2013, ACT Anaheim is a collaboration between the Disneyland Resort, Angels Baseball and the Anaheim Ducks that focuses on helping those 13 to 18. Receiving grants this year are 12 groups ranging from youth clubs to arts programs to mental health service providers. They are sharing $982,500.

    It looks like the voters for the Orange County football poll are impressed by JSerra.
    The Lions have wins over Corona del Mar and Alemany, and moved up from No. 7 last week to No. 5 this week. JSerra was No. 4 on my ballot this week behind, in order, Mater Dei, Mission Viejo and Orange Lutheran.
    Last week, Orange Lutheran was tied for No. 3 in the poll with Santa Margarita. Orange Lutheran last week went to San Diego and beat Cathedral Catholic, ranked No. 22 in the state at the time.

  • Anaheim doubles money available to help weatherize homes

    The city is increasing its funding of a program that helps residents with weatherizing their homes. It will also expand who is eligible for assistance.
    Going forward, $1.5 million will be available, up from $600,000; the City Council approved the increase last month. The city partners with the Southern California Gas Company on the program, with the company arranging the contractors that go out and do improvements.

    SAN PEDRO SULA, Honduras — Bobby Wood scored off a scramble in the 85th minute, and the United States escaped from Honduras with a 1-1 tie Tuesday after nearly falling into a deep hole in World Cup qualifying.
    Romell Quioto scored in the 27th minute after defender Omar Gonzalez failed to clear the ball with a slide tackle. Quioto was left with an open 11-yard shot that beat goalkeeper Brad Guzan to the far post, causing exuberant fans to stomp and shake Estadio Olimpico Metropolitano.
