    A pilot was killed Friday morning when a small plane crashed while taking off from a runway at the San Gabriel Valley Airport in El Monte.

    At least one person died early Friday morning, July 14, on the southbound 405 freeway in Irvine after an SUV crashed into a tree, authorities said.
    The 3:08 a.m. collision happened on the Irvine Center off-ramp, according to the California Highway Patrol. The car also caught fire after the crash.
