    LAKE FOREST A years-long attempt to turn an old nursery into a U-Haul rental and storage center took another step in the right direction after the Planning Commission approved updated plans for the design and landscaping for the project on Thursday, June 8.
    The facility, at 25290 Jeronimo Road, would be the third for U-Haul in Lake Forest, but the first that offers a storage facility, according to city staff.

    SAN FRANCISCO — A UPS employee opened fire at a San Francisco package delivery facility on Wednesday, injuring four and prompting a massive police response in a neighborhood near downtown, officials said.
    UPS spokesman Steve Gaut told The Associated Press that an employee fired inside the facility before the drivers were sent out to do their normal daily deliveries. Gaut said four people were injured and that he believed the shooter “turned the gun on himself.”

    PLACENTIA Firefighters are investigating a Wednesday fire that caused significant damage at Rubio’s restaurant, authorities said.

    SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO — The start of the 2020 Olympic cycle offers some excitement for Coach Karch Kiraly as he looks for the next group of contributors for the U.S. women’s volleyball program.
    Tuesday night, in the first match of the new cycle, the U.S., with a lot of new faces on the court and veterans watching from the stands, swept Canada, 25-21, 25-22, 27-25, in an exhibition at JSerra High.

    Fullerton bank robbery suspect arrested minutes after the heist
    FULLERTON — A Cypress man was arrested shortly after a robber handed a note to a bank teller demanding money and fleeing the bank with more than $1,000, authorities said.
    The Fullerton Police Department was dispatched to the Chase Bank at 1107 S. Harbor Boulevard about 1:50 p.m. on Tuesday, June 13, Sgt. Jon Radus said.
    Mark Anthony Romero Jr., 37,  is suspected of fleeing the scene with $1,100 in cash, Radus said.
