    WOODEN BOAT FESTIVAL: An estimated 4,000 people are expected to show up in Newport Harbor this weekend for the annual Wooden Boat Festival. There will be boats built in the 1920s, and some created just two years ago. There will be tiny boats just 4 feet long, and massive ones in the 100-foot range.

    SANTA ANA — Police are asking for the public’s help in finding a 14-year-old girl who was last seen fleeing from a caretaker after a court appearance late last month.
    Danielle Renea Thompson attended a hearing May 24 at Orange County Superior Court. After the hearing, Thompson walked out of court with her caregiver and fled east on Civic Center Drive toward Ross Street, the Santa Ana Police said in a statement Thursday, June 8.

    A 61-year-old Arizona man has been charged with the 1984 cold-case homicide of a transient in Santa Ana, authorities said.
    John William Zelinski of Tucson was booked Wednesday, June 7, into the Orange County Jail, said Santa Ana Police Cpl. Anthony Bertagna.
    He has been charged with murder and a sentencing enhancement for use of a deadly weapon.
