    ‘Star Wars’ Land update: Disneyland’s Rivers of America route nearly done
    The steel is climbing out of the ground as “Star Wars” land continues to take shape at Disneyland.
    But while that land will open in 2019, crews are rapidly finishing work on the rockwork and landscaping around the new route for the Rivers of America. The waterway is scheduled to be open to boat traffic again in the latter half of 2017, as is the Big Thunder Trail that connects Frontierland to the back side of Fantasyland.

    Self-service gas station will add to Placentia revenue
    A new self-service gas station that will be renting city property at Placentia and Crowther avenues will help bolster city finances, officials said.
    The 76 Station, operated by Galaxy Oil, would generate $25,000 a year in rent for the city and annual royalty payments between $200,000 to $350,000, depending on the volume of fuel sold.

    St. Jude hospital in Fullerton receives $3 million gift for stroke care from estate of former patient
    St. Jude Medical Center has received a $3 million gift for stroke research and treatment from the estate of a Huntington Beach man who was a stroke patient there two decades ago.
    The gift from Marvin Blaski, who was 84, will pay for clinical advances and an endowed medical directorship to attract top doctors to the Fullerton hospital.
    Blaski, who died in June 2016, had a stroke in 1996.

    San Clemente man arrested on suspicion of sexual assault of a boy and giving him drugs
    A 50-year-old San Clemente man was arrested Thursday, May 4 on suspicion of sexually assaulting a boy and giving him marijuana and controlled substances, Orange County Sheriff’s deputies said.
    Investigators began looking into Christian Reed late March after someone reported that he was having “inappropriate conversations” with an underage boy online. On March 24, deputies served a search warrant at Reed’s home, according to Jaimee Blashaw of the Orange County Sheriff

    Musical Theatre West’s Footlighters presented $1,000 scholarships to 11 Orange and Los Angeles county students at its annual awards, held at Sycamore Plaza in Lakewood. The Footlighters is a nonprofit auxiliary organization that supports the education and fundraising efforts of MTW.
