Workplace deaths in the oil and gas and trucking industries help explain why New Mexico had about twice the U.S. rate of work-related fatalities in 2013, health officials said in a new report.

NAPA Auto Parts is relocating its Northeast Heights store in October, a move that will mean nearly 40 percent more space and additional customer parking.

The Twentieth Century Fox film “Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials,” which filmed in and around Albuquerque last year and opened on Friday, brought $23.5 million to the state’s economy, according to data released by the Motion Picture Association of America.

First lab-confirmed cases of flu are reported in New Mexico
SANTA FE, N.M. — The New Mexico Department of Health is reporting the first lab-confirmed cases of influenza for this season.
Health officials say there are three reported cases — all involving women from Bernalillo County.
Two of the women — ages 68 and 77 — were hospitalized for treatment and are now out of the hospital.
The other woman with the flu is 54 years old.
The first flu case last season in New Mexico was reported last September.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) – New Mexico colleges are seeing a decline in enrollment as the economy improves and administrators try to adjust and find ways to lure more students.

Clovis man gets 10 years for embezzlement
SANTA FE — A former Clovis CPA has been sentenced to 10 years for embezzling $296,000 from the New Mexico Cattle Growers Foundation in eastern New Mexico.
Charles Fleming, 56, pleaded guilty to embezzling $296,000 from the foundation, where he served as treasurer from 2010-2011. He used the money to pay personal expenses and business expenses for his private accounting firm in Clovis, according to the state Taxation and Revenue Department.

The Roof is scheduled to open in November
FARMINGTON — The only shelter in San Juan County that takes in intoxicated people during winter has a contractor and can now open in November, officials said.

The Office of the State Auditor has finished examining nearly 450 government entities in New Mexico as part of a first-of-its-kind review.
