    A tale of two Metlakatlas: Part 1
    Many Alaskans are not aware there are two Metlakatlas. The first is in British Columbia, a short ferry ride from Prince Rupert. It’s the original settlement founded by the followers of Anglican lay-priest William Duncan.
    KRBD’s Leila Kheiry talked with an elder of that community during a trip to Prince Rupert last fall; and then with some residents of Alaska’s Metlakatla just last month, in anticipation of that Southeast city’s upcoming Founders Day celebration.

    State regulators are monitoring the cleanup of two small oil spills at a storage site  on the west side of Cook Inlet.

    Park Service continues work on repairs following mudslide
    The National Park Service continues work to repair a mudslide damaged portion of the road into Denali National Park. A mudslide last Saturday initially blocked the road at mile 67 west of the Eielson Visitor’s Center. The Park Service opened one lane of the road Sunday but passage has been restricted so crews can continue repairs. Park spokeswoman Lynn McAloon said the agency hopes to have the road fully open by Friday.
