    Alaska State Troopers shot a man wielding a knife Thursday evening in Wasilla.
    Troopers responded to the incident just after 7:20 p.m. and encountered a 32-year-old unnamed male with the knife.
    According to a Trooper dispatch, while Troopers were talking with the man, he charged at them, knife in hand.
    Two Troopers fired their service weapons and a third attempted to use a Taser.

    A lightning-sparked wildfire is burning in Nowitna National Wildlife Refuge, in the state’s interior.
    The Big Mud Fire, burning 55 miles southwest of Tanana, was discovered yesterday by civilian aircraft. A BLM Alaska Fire Service aircraft responded from Fairbanks and flew over the lightning-caused fire.     Anchorage police are investigating a shooting near the intersection of Spenard Road and Minnesota Drive.
    According to a press release, APD received a call just before 3:30 a.m. today [Friday], from citizens reporting that they heard shots fired in the area.

    Since 1992, volunteers with Ketchikan’s “Save the Goose” project have been working to restore a historic amphibious plane.  The Grumman Goose restoration is about 85 percent complete and now those involved are trying to find a permanent home for the plane.     Like other large waterfowl species, the North American population of snow geese was decimated in the early part of the twentieth century due to overhunting.  But since then, thanks to hunting restrictions and habitat protection, snow geese numbers have bounced back strongly – some might say a bit too strongly.

    The family of a former Juneau man has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the Department of Corrections. It’s the second wrongful death lawsuit filed against the department this year.

    Federal marine mammal experts are hoping the public will help lead them to a humpback whale that became entangled in anchor line in southeast Alaska.

    Officials with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration said the whale was last seen Wednesday as it swam south in Seymour Canal near Windfall Harbor.
