    Alaska GOP names Babcock party chair
    Tuckerman Babcock, of Soldotna, is the new chairman of the Alaska Republican Party.Tuckerman Babcock, a long-time Republican strategist and former aide to Gov. Wally Hickel, is the new chairman of the Alaska Republican Party.
    Babcock won the spot at the state GOP convention in Fairbanks today. He beat Fairbanks attorney Ann Brown.
    Convention participants also changed party rules to end the term of the prior chair, Peter Goldberg, right away. That means Babcock will be a delegate to the National

    An ice jam on the Yukon River below Eagle has released. National Weather Service hydrologist Ed Plumb said the jam in place since Tuesday, broke up early this morning.

    Iditarod Committee: Beals will not compete in 2017 race following domestic violence charges
    The Iditarod Trail Committee Board released a statement today regarding rules related to musher conduct. Recent reports of domestic violence charges against musher Travis Beals have prompted Iditarod officials to disallow any 2017 application from Beals.
    The statement says Beals will be out of the Iditarod for 2017 and for an ‘indefinite period of time thereafter saying the duration will be dependent on successful completion of court ordered rehabilitation.
