  • Hooper Bay loses fourth young adult; Troopers believe deaths were from suicide

    The village of Hooper Bay has suffered another loss. A fourth person has died by suicide.
    Alaska State Troopers received a call that 21-year-old Carl Dominic Robert Joe had died from an apparent suicide Saturday afternoon, according to the online trooper dispatch.
    Joe’s death comes less than a week after three other young adults have died.

  • Crashes with moose kill 2 people over 2 days in Anchorage

    Authorities say two people have been killed in crashes with moose in Anchorage this weekend.
    Police spokeswoman Jennifer Castro says in news releases that 45-year-old driver Gerardo Lopez Rios died early Saturday and 38-year-old motorcyclist Justin Jones died early Sunday, both after striking one of the animals.
    On Saturday, police and fire officials arrived to find a moose lying in the road and Rios’ Subaru sedan in a ditch. Police say the injured moose was euthanized. No one else was in
  • Remains of child found in burned Tununak home

    Authorities say the remains of a small child have been recovered from a home that burned down in the western Alaska village of Tununak.
    KTUU-TV reports that troopers had responded to the fire early Friday, and they initially reported that a young child had been unaccounted for.
    The remains that were found in the destroyed home are being sent in for an autopsy and an identification of the child.
    Details about what caused the fire have yet to be released.
    Investigations in the case are ongoing.
