Mentor, OH, Police Officer Mathew Mazany was helping a fellow LEO during a traffic stop early Sunday morning when he was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver, according to ODMP.Mazany was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.Mentor police said one person was taken into custody but it wasn’t immediately clear if the person in custody was the driver who struck and killed the officer.Officer Mazany had served with the Mentor Police Department for 14 years. A man was shot and killed after stabbing a police officer Friday night during an investigation into a hit-and-run crash, according to The Press of Atlantic City.A press release from the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office said that 32-year-old Timothy Deal stabbed an officer in the torso with a knife in an unprovoked attack. The wounded officer then shot and killed Deal. The officer was treated and released from a local hospital.
