    Galliford Try strengthens infrastructure team
    Galliford Try has appointed two commercial directors for its realigned infrastructure business.
    Jon McRae and Andrew Arpino become commercial directors for National Highways and Local Authorities business streams, respectively.
    McRae joins from Balfour Beatty where he was commercial director holding senior roles on major projects such as the A14 and HS2.Meanwhile, Alpino is promoted after being with the business for nine years, progressing through a number of roles in that time.

    Green light for Canary Wharf science tower
    Canary Wharf Group and Kadans Science Partner have secured planning approval from Tower Hamlets Council for a new commercial health and life sciences building.
    The 23-storey tower will provide 823,000 sq ft of of life sciences laboratories and workspace at the North Quay site next to Crossrail Station and new Elizabeth Line at Canary Wharf.

    Tata to build £4bn UK gigafactory
    Tata Group has confirmed plans to build a £4bn gigafactory in Somerset.
    The new factory will provide almost half of the UK’s battery production needed by 2030 and will be Tata Group’s first gigafactory outside India.
    It will produce  batteries for Tata-owned Jaguar Land Rover as well as other manufacturers in the UK and Europe.

    Second half recovery hopes dashed at Watkin Jones
    Hopes of a bounce back in the second half of this year have been dashed at Watkin Jones.
    The build-to-rent specialist revealed a pre-tax loss of £800,000 in May’s interim results  for the six months to March 31 2023 but was confident of a recovery in the rest of the year.

    BAM exits delayed M54 to M6 link road scheme
    National Highways is on the hunt for a new contractor to deliver the £200m M54-M6 link road project after Bam Nuttall decided to exit the delayed project.
    The £200m scheme will provide a 1.6-mile link road between Junction 1 of the M54 and Junction 11 of the M6.
    BAM had originally expected to start in 2022 but work was delayed by then transport secretary Grant Shapps to explore further environmental considerations.

    M&E specialist contractor Integral UK is to stop working for main contractors in a strategic move to focus efforts on working directly for clients.
    As a result, Intergral UK’s Major Projects Division, which is understood to turnover around £80m, will be closed with up to 100 jobs now at risk as redundancy consultations get underway with staff.
