    Henry Brothers is opening a office in Manchester as a bridgehead to expand its operations across the north.
    As a result of the planned expansion, the English company Henry Brothers Midlands Ltd will now operate as Henry Brothers Construction going forward.

    Landsec is slowing down work on two major London commercial schemes as the economy continues to falter.
    The developer said it will only commit to early works worth £55m on Timber Square in SE1 and the refurbishment of Portland House in SW1 which have a combined total development cost of £780m.

  • Tilbury Douglas JV loses fight over £22m adjudication ruling

    Northumbrian Water has won its fight to enforce an adjudicator’s ruling that a joint venture between Tilbury Douglas and Doosan Enpure pay it £22.4m over delays on a water treatment works job.
    The JV had tried to argue the dispute should go to arbitration.
    Disputes arose over cost overruns, delays to works and quality issues on the design and build job to upgrade the Horsley water treatment works in Northumberland.

  • Civils chiefs call for “managed migration” to ease skills crisis

    Civils contractors are calling for more foreign workers to be allowed onto sites to ease the skills crisis which has hit record levels.
    The latest Civil Engineering Contractors Association’s Workload Trends Survey for the third  quarter of 2022 found that while contractors experienced an eighth quarter of successive growth in  workloads, 75% of firms reported issues with the supply of skilled operatives, and 63% with  the supply of other operatives.

  • Bidding starts for £800m YORcivil 3 framework

    Procurement body YORhub has started tendering for its third generation civil engineering framework covering the Yorkshire and Humber regions.
    Separated into two regional frameworks together worth an estimated £800m, they will replace YORcivil2, which is due to expire in August 2023.

  • Milton Keynes £30m office to flats project approved

    Developer Urban Village Group has got the planning thumbs up to convert a major Milton Keynes office block into nearly 240 private rental flats.

    Leicestershire County Council has decided to press ahead with its A606 North and East Melton Mowbray Distributor Road project despite costs doubling from an initial £62m to £127m.
    Galliford Try is earmarked to deliver the major ring road scheme and could now start next April.
