• HS2 milestone as first London tunnel drive starts

    HS2 contractor Skanska Costain Strabag JV has powered up the first London tunnel boring machine for one of the most complex drives on the project.
    The landmark moment yesterday saw local teacher Sushila Hirani, after whom the TBM is named, ceremonially switch on the 2,000t, 140m long machine on its 5-mile journey.

    Plans have been unveiled for a landmark hotel and office scheme at Liverpool Street Station in London.

    Mace has been appointed main contractor on the Edge London Bridge 28-storey office complex.
    Dutch developer Edge has set an ambitious target for the project of becoming London’s most sustainable office tower.

    A new joint Army and NHS healthcare centre to be built at Catterick in North Yorkshire has gained planning.
    TilburyDouglas will build the £55m Integrated Care Campus, which has spent more than seven years in development and will provide health services for Army staff and civilians.
    Subject to final clinical modelling, the purpose-build centre on the Garrison will house mental heath services, primary care such as GPs, physiotherapy, dentistry and charity healthcare providers under one roof.

    As HS2 enters its main phase of construction project bosses have revealed more that 27,000 people are working across 350 sites between London, the Midlands and the North West.
    In the West Midlands 6,838 people are employed helping to build the new stations at Curzon Street in the centre of Birmingham and Interchange in Solihull, as well as miles of track, tunnels and viaducts in-between.
