    Race starts for £2bn Wales & Western rail framework
    Network Rail has started the hunt for firms to deliver a £2bn works and renewal programme for control period 7 in the Wales and Western territories.
    The five-year framework will cover the majority of the Buildings and Civils portfolios such as Structures, Geotechnical Off-track & Drainage and Stations & Buildings.
    Network Rail will also retain the option for three one-year extensions taking the total term for partner firms to eight years.

    Plans go in for new £55m Galashiels Academy
    Plans to replace the existing Galashiels Academy with a £55m community campus facility have been submitted.
    If planning permission is granted, work is due to start on site in Galashiels in the summer of 2023, with completion due in 2025 and demolition works of the existing school to follow.

    £80m East London estate renewal approved
    Planning permission has been granted to replace three ageing council blocks in East London’s Stepney with 412 homes and new community facilities.
    Designed by architect PRP, the Clichy Estate rebuild will deliver around 170 affordable homes with the majority of these intended for larger families.
    The new estate will be entirely car free and energy efficient.
    The phased building project will see demolition of Harriott, Apsley and Pattison Houses and the Redcoat & Redcoat Community Centre

    John Sisk & Son has appointed Ajaz Shafi as chief operating officer of its business in the UK, filling the vacancy left following the promotion of Paul Brown to chief executive late last year.
    Shafi joined Sisk in 2013, initially managing the firm’s UAE division before taking up the position as managing director for the UK South business.

    A demolition company boss has been sentenced after posing as an asbestos removal specialist and storing the deadly material in a lock-up container near a school.
    Lincoln Crown Court heard that between 2017 and 2019, Lee Charles acted as a de facto director of Lincs Demolition Ltd and secured a number of lucrative contracts after marketing himself as a registered asbestos-removal specialist.
