  Construction buyers reported an upturn in activity in October as a bellwether industry index hit its highest level for three months.
  The IHS Markit/CIPS UK Construction PMI Total Activity Index registered 54.6 in October, up from 52.6 in September.

  A joint venture partnership between north west developer Cityheart and Beijing Construction Engineering Group International has got the planning thumbs up to start the £130m redevelopment of the Galleries Shopping Centre in Wigan.

• Concrete worker killed by exploding tyre

  A concrete supplier has been fined after an agency worker suffered fatal injuries following a tyre explosion.
  Dudley Magistrates’ Court heard how the contractor suffered fatal injuries when using an air hose/compressed air to inflate the tyre of an articulated wheel loader.
  An HSE investigation into the incident, on 28 March 2019, found that the company failed to have in place a safe system of work for inflation of the multi-piece split rim assembly wheels on the articulated wheel loader.T

  A trio of main shareholders in Nottingham-based contractor Clegg Group have sold a majority 51% stake in the business to an employee ownership trust.
  The previous major shareholders, Keith Anderson, Simon Blackburn and Stephen Giltrap will retain a minority shareholding and continue their operational roles within the business, which includes the two trading subsidiaries Clegg Construction and Clegg Food Projects.
