    LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) – Landlords in Los Angeles would not be allowed to reject potential tenants with Section 8 vouchers under a plan moved forward Wednesday by the City Council.
    Under the ordinance, recipients of government housing vouchers would be protected against “source-of-income” discrimination from landlords who are reluctant to rent to such tenants, according to a city report.

    LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) – The Los Angeles City Council is considering a motion Wednesday which would prevent landlords from rejecting rental applications from low-income families with Section 8 vouchers.

    MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (CBS Local) — Fentanyl-related deaths have skyrocketed in West Virginia even as prescription-related opioid deaths declined, according to a new study.
    Researchers analyzed the number of fentanyl deaths from 2015 to 2017 and found that deaths rose by 122%. Prescription opioid-related deaths decreased by 75% in those same two years.

    COLOMA TOWNSHIP, Mich. (CBS Local) — Authorities in southwestern Michigan are urging residents to be vigilant after razor blades were found inside gas pump handles.
    Two razor blades — one rusty and one newer looking — fell from a pump handle Monday night while a customer was filling up at the Speedway gas station in Coloma Township, police said.

    ELKTON, Md. (CBS Local) — A Maryland man kicked a puppy to death while it was tied to a fence because the dog had urinated on his couch, according to court records.
    Ibe Nyshere Lyles, 42, had allegedly kicked and beat his 5-month-old pit bull while the dog was tethered to a fence “and unable to defend itself or run away from the attack,” police in Elkton said.

    WEST LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) – A motorcyclist was killed Wednesday in a crash that shut down several lanes of the 405 Freeway in West Los Angeles.
    The crash was reported about 10 a.m. near Santa Monica Boulevard and a Sigalert was issued a short time later, the California Highway Patrol said.
    Officials say the motorcyclist swerved out of the HOV lane and crashed into a black BMW SUV. The motorcycle then caught fire, killing the rider.

    The crash happened just before 6 a.m. on Olympic Boulevard at Soto Street. Amazingly, the truck’s driver suffered only minor injuries.
