Tweede lancering van nieuwe Vulcan Centaur raket verloopt niet zonder problemen

De tweede Vulcan Centaur raket van het Amerikaanse ruimtevaartbedrijf United Launch Alliance steeg 4 oktober 2024 op voor een testvlucht die nodig was om de nieuwe raket te certificeren voor het lanceren van nationale veiligheidsladingen, maar er was mogelijk een probleem met een van de boosterraketten (SRB). De zon heeft op donderdag 3 oktober 2024 haar krachtigste zonnevlam van deze cyclus losgelaten, een kolossale X-klasse uitbarsting. De X9.05 zonnevlam bereikte zijn hoogtepunt om 14u10 Belgische tijd en veroorzaakte kortegolfradioblackouts boven Afrika en Europa, het door de zon beschenen deel van de aarde op het moment van de uitbarsting.
