Digital Duty of Care: holding competing truths in tension
Psychology has revealed that humans desire cognitive closure. We want definitive answers rather than endure the discomfort of ambiguity. We may make judgments prematurely rather than hold competing truths in tension. In Christianity, many things are black and white – and the world needs this clarity. Men are men and women are women. Life is life, no matter the stage. But when we are confronted…

Courageous Conversations in Adelaide: A growing call to protect children
Summary of the recent Coalition Advancing Scientific Care (CASC) Conference by Ashlyn Vice, South Australian Director, Australian Christian Lobby Earlier this month, I had the privilege of attending the Coalition for Advancing Scientific Care (CASC) Gender Healthcare Summit in Adelaide, on behalf of the Australian Christian Lobby – where more than 200 medical professionals, academics…

One in 34: What WA’s Assisted Dying Report is Telling Us
Last financial year, one in every 34 West Australians who died did so through voluntary assisted dying. That is the headline from the WA Voluntary Assisted Dying Board’s fifth annual report, released this month. In 2025–26, 541 people died by VAD, or 2.9 per cent of all deaths in the state. On each state’s latest official figures, that is the highest share in Australia…

Labor pledges $30m for abortion. Opposition Partly Match it.
Babies’ lives and women’s safety are not political pawns. On the morning of 15 October, Victorian Labor pledged $30 million to expand taxpayer-funded abortion. By that afternoon, Opposition Leader Jess Wilson had matched part of the pledge, promising no out-of-pocket costs for surgical abortions up to 16 weeks. Neither announcement mentioned the child whose life is ended.

The NSW Election Campaign Is Taking Shape
Over recent months, ACL has been preparing for the NSW election on Saturday, 13 March 2027. As supporters have come to expect, we will serve churches through an election website where Christians can learn about the positions of their local candidates and the parties on a broad range of important issues. Alongside this resource, we will run a flagship political campaign on…

Renewed calls for curriculum transparency in SA, following England’s example
Recent revelations about sex education in South Australian schools should concern every parent. In August, The Advertiser brought the issue into the spotlight with its front-page “Sex Ed Scandal”, reporting on a controversial teaching method involving a teacher acting out a scenario of sexual abuse with a student. Most concerningly, the method followed an approach endorsed…

Your Chance to Protect Freedom in Queensland
Queensland is reviewing its human rights and anti-discrimination laws, and the outcome could have a lasting effect on religious freedom, freedom of speech, parental rights, and the freedom of Christian organisations to operate in accordance with their beliefs. ACL is making a detailed submission to the Review. Next week, we will also launch a special Queensland campaign to help…

Keeping Children Safe Online Without Silencing Lawful Speech
The Federal Government has said it will introduce its Online Safety Amendment (Digital Duty of Care) Bill 2026 to Parliament in October. ACL made a formal submission, and more than 2,000 of you used our online tool to give the government direct feedback on the Bill. We support firm action against the gravest harms online, but this draft reaches much further than that, and it needs to…

You Can’t Fix What You Won’t Name
The Royal Commission on Antisemitism and Social Cohesion was called in response to the 2025 Bondi Beach terror attack on Jewish Australians. Yet we have not seen any evidence that the hearings or Commission have specifically examined Islamic antisemitism as a key driver, nor the preaching of Islamic hate preachers, or migration; the key issues ACL raised in our June submission.

A Closer Look at the Prayer That Opens WA’s Parliament
When the Legislative Assembly sits, some of the first words spoken in the chamber are among the most familiar in the English language. Many of us could say them half asleep. They’re worth slowing down for, because they ask a great deal of the people who make our laws. Back in June, we wrote about where this tradition comes from. Christian prayer has opened Westminster parliaments since…

Why Does the ACT Have a Navigator for VAD but Not Palliative Care?
When someone is nearing the end of their life, the question should be: how can we care for this person well? For families facing terminal illness, that means accessible palliative care, practical support and someone to help them navigate the health system. Yet in the ACT, there is a striking difference in the support available for voluntary assisted dying and palliative care.

NSW Government Rules Out Commercial Surrogacy
There are some things we should never put a price on. A woman’s ability to carry a child and a child’s right to be valued as more than the outcome of a commercial transaction should be protected. For Christians, children are not commodities to be obtained. Psalm 127 tells us that “children are a heritage from the Lord”. They are gifts entrusted to us by God…

Twice blocked, never debated: Parliament won’t even talk about women’s spaces
On 15 September the Senate voted 32 to 22 to stop Senator Michaelia Cash’s Sex Discrimination Amendment (Restoring Common Sense and Recognising Biological Sex) Bill 2026 from coming back onto the agenda. Every Labor and Greens senator present voted against it, along with independents David Pocock and Fatima Payman. The Coalition, One Nation and the UAP’s Ralph Babet voted for it.
