  In 2016, the same year that the province declared an opioid health emergency, the number of homeless deaths spiked 140 per cent over the year before.

  The people who do these things are sick and often motivated by a desire to achieve fame or, rather, infamy. Such a story should definitely be covered by the media, but the level of coverage should be scaled back to provide only relevant information. Also, the perpetrator shouldn’t be identified as that is what they want.

  Grant’s mom, Corinne De Patie, told Postmedia News on Wednesday that she had just received a copy of Pratt’s death certificate in the mail. She said Pratt died on Feb. 13, 2019, in New Westminster, which was almost 14 years since her son was killed.
