  • Regional fire services get much-needed grant for equipment

    A joint application by four area volunteer fire departments has netted them $15,000 to replace aging equipment.
    The Goulais Fire and Rescue Department, Awares Volunteer Fire Department, Batchawana Fire Department and Searchmont Community Volunteer Fire Department jointly submitted an application for funding to replace a 25-year-old radio repeater.
    The equipment is showing its age, has recently failed and parts are now difficult to find.

    Sault Ste. Marie’s Airport does not see the Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft fly in or out of Sault Ste. Marie.
    The aircraft has been grounded by more than 40 countries after Sunday’s deadly crash in Ethiopia that killed 157 people on board, including 18 Canadians.
