  Canadian cops will go from cracking down on cannabis to being potential consumers as of the Oct. 17 legalization date, which has police agencies rushing to update workplace policies around substance use and impairment.

  A Surrey resident who says the city may have already lost up to 10,000 trees to redevelopment this year wants to save a stand of cedars that includes one tree that is nearly 400 years old.

  The smoke from hundreds of wildfires choking B.C. is not just bad for people, but can also harm animals, especially those with health problems.
  As an air quality warning continues for much of the province, the SPCA is advising residents to keep their pets indoors if possible.
  SPCA spokeswoman Lorie Chortyk says when air quality advisories are issued, pet owners should take similar precautions as humans to ensure their furry friends are comfortable in the haze and summer heat.

  UPDATE: Five lost puppies rescued by B.C. firefighters on Sunday were neither lost nor rescued, according to the dogs owner.
  On Sunday, the B.C. Wildfire Service posted a Facebook photo of a fire fighting crew posing with five puppies found on the side of a rural road.  The crew, which had just finished a firefighting shift, said there were no houses nearby that the dogs could have wandered away from, so they scooped up the pups and took them back to their base.

  Firefighters have contained a small wildfire that broke out Monday in a residential West Vancouver neighbourhood.
  The brush fire, which measured about 40 by 20 metres, ignited near the railway tracks adjacent to the 3300-block Sunset Lane, near some homes.

  A West Vancouver man associated with the Hells Angels has been shot to death in Mexico, Postmedia News has learned.
