Teresa Di Cesare woke early, went downstairs, and started her usual routine.
Her youngest granddaughter, Sabrina, 8, was already awake watching television in the playroom. Her daughter, Adele Sorella, and other granddaughter, nine-year-old Amanda, would wake soon after.
As she would every morning, Di Cesare brushed the family dog and took it outside. She then poured each granddaughter a cup of milk with a splash of coffee in it — so they could all share “coffee” together i

Allison Hanes: Young Quebecers are suing for climate negligence
With the prognosis for the planet getting worse by the week, young Quebecers took matters into their own hands Monday by suing the Canadian government for climate negligence.

The statement of claim filed in Quebec Superior Court argues that it is young people who will disproportionately bear the brunt of climate change — an infringement on their rights to life, equality and security of -

Montreal to bury its new $254-million Bellechasse bus garage underground
In what is being billed as a North American first, the city of Montreal announced Monday it has will bury its controversial Rosemont-La-Petite-Patrie bus depot three storeys underground in order to lessen negative effects on the heavily populated neighbourhood that surrounds it. The submergence will mean less visual pollution in the neighbourhood, and can be done for the same price first estimated for an above-ground multi-storey garage, the city said.
At the same time, Montreal Mayor Valé -
Ensemble Montréal proposes diverting Pink Line funds to plan tramway
Montreal’s opposition says the Plante administration should kill the office to study the Pink Line of the métro, and use that money for a project it says is more realistic.

The amendment says the $1 million earmarked for the creation of a municipal project office to study the construction of a new line of the m& -

What the Puck: Alzner departs, but Weber unlikely to solve Habs' D woes
Shea Weber is not the saviour.
It is going to be great to have the Man Mountain back in the Habs’ lineup, in all likelihood beginning with Tuesday’s Bell Centre bout against the Carolina Hurricanes. But I don’t think Weber is going to be a game-changer.
The bottom line is the Canadiens’ defence corps is one of the worst in the NHL and Weber will help shore up things on the back end. But great as he is, Dad is not enough to cure what ails this blue line. I don’t even -

Lise Ravary: The travails of an honest bridge-builder
The slow reactions, or lack thereof, to the Doug Ford government’s decision — now partly reversed — to eliminate the office of the French Language Commissioner and kill the projected French university, by media outside Quebec surprised me. Here in Quebec, the Montreal Gazette must be commended for taking a -

Woman who slipped on icy sidewalk will get $28,000 from Montreal
A court has ordered the city of Montreal to pay $28,000 to a woman who slipped on an icy sidewalk and broke her ankle.
In a Nov. 19 judgment, Quebec Superior Court Justice Louis J. Gouin found the city should have spread abrasives on the sidewalk “to avoid as much as possible the creation of ice sheets and thus minimize the risk of falling, especially on a sidewalk located near a school.”
