    Breaking News: Flash Flood in downtown Bancroft
    A flood, allegedly caused by a beaver dam breaking in Copper lake** has made parts of downtown Bancroft impassible and caused businesses to close.
    Significant flooding of buildings has occurred. My Bancroft Now has reached out to Emergency services and the Town of Bancroft and will update when we have more information.

    Bancroft raises over seven thousand dollars on McHappy Day 
    On the first Wednesday in May each year, McDonald’s restaurants across the country host McHappy Day. The day aims to raise funds for Ronald McDonald House Canada and local charities.

    Get a ‘bag of books’ in Barry’s Bay library’s biggest fundraiser  
    If you are looking to stock up on books for summer reading season, head to the library in Barrys Bay.  
    Friday and Saturday they’ll be having a “Buy a Bag” used book sale during their regular hours.  
    People will be able to fill a small or large grocery bag for $10 or $20 depending on the size of the bag.
    According to Library CEO Natalie Barrington, used book sales are the library’s largest fundraiser.

    Water main flushing this week in Bancroft 
    Water main flushing began Monday in Bancroft and is expected to take up to seven days to complete.  
    The Town says this is designed to remove sediment accumulation within the water mains in order to maintain good water quality.
    They also say this could result in temporarily discoloured water and lower than normal water pressure.
    According to the Town, these are normal results and if they occur, they recommend running cold tap water until the water is clear.

    Honda Snowblower among items stolen in BLR township thefts
    Killaloe OPP say they are looking into two separate thefts that occurred in the Township of Brudenell, Lyndoch and Raglan.
    On May 6, just before 10 a.m., police were called to Dam Road where a Honda snowblower and ground wire were stolen.
    Just after 10:30 a.m., members of the Killaloe OPP responded to a call from Ruby Mine Road, where assorted tools were reported stolen, including a Milwaukee grinder and a grease gun.

    The Shamrock Club three-day snooker tournament took place earlier this month. Hospice board chair Michael Brooks says that during the finals on Sunday there were a few surprise upsets, but all the games were close and competitive.

    The road crews worked hard and finished early this weekend.
    The culvert work was completed on Saturday May 11 at 7:40pm.
    South Baptiste Lake rd is now open for regular travel with no detours.

    A third of commercial vehicles taken off road, impaired driver charged in roadside inspection in Madoc 
    A commercial vehicle inspection initiative in Madoc has resulted in nine vehicles being taken out of service and removed from the roads.  
    Members of the Ontario Provincial Police, the TIME (Traffic Incident Management Enforcement) team and inspectors from the Ministry of Transportation inspected twenty-four commercial vehicles on May 7.  
    In addition to the vehicles being removed from service, officers also arrested one driver for being impaired

    A petition to save The Beer Store in Barry's Bay has so far garnered more than 700 signatures. Residents were recently shocked to discover that The Beer Store will close for good in June after more than 70 years in business. The petition, at change.org, started May 2.
