Ever since the Oilers' No. 1 goaltender (Frederik Andersen) got injured and the Jets' Connor Hellebuyck publicly requested a trade, goaltenders have been making headlines in the NHL.
And that's to be expected.
As training camps draw nearer, it's only natural to see certain teams putting the finishing touches on their offseason preparations for the upcoming season.
Naturally, all of this brings Samuel Montembeault's name back into the conversation.
Should the Oilers be considered in this scenario

Jameson Taillon (already) back on the injured list
via dose.ca
The Blue Jays' five-pitcher rotation lasted two innings. It's better than nothing, obviously, but…
Last night, during a Blue Jays victory, Jameson Taillon got injured. An elbow injury is to blame for his exit from yesterday's game.
We all expected him to be placed on the injured list, and that's exactly what happened. The team announced it on social media.
Ricky Tiedemann is therefore back in the majors after recently (yesterday) being sent down to Triple-A.ROSTER MOVES: LHP Ricky Tiedema -
“It was tough”: Brendan Gallagher opens up about his last few months with the Habs
via dose.ca
For the first time since the 2012-13 season, the Canadiens are preparing to start a season without Brendan Gallagher. Earlier this summer, the veteran was traded to the Vancouver Canucks.
He was traded for future considerations, as the Canadiens wanted above all to accommodate him, given his many years of loyal service.
That said, we hadn't heard much from Gallagher himself since he requested a trade at the end of the season. He spent most of the playoffs in the press box, and we were wondering -
Bo Bichette: No Discussions with the Mets About His Future
via dose.ca
Last winter, Bo Bichette left Toronto. Having played only for the Blue Jays since the start of his career, he finally decided to continue his career with the Mets.
On top of that, he made the transition to playing third base in the Big Apple. That was pretty unexpected.
Bichette ended up having a terrible start to the season, although things are slowly starting to turn around. He's still having a pretty mediocre year, but it's less disastrous than it once was.
However, it's worth noting that at -
NHL 27: The Canadiens’ player faces look terrible
via dose.ca
NHL 27, the latest installment in the annual series developed by EA Sports, will officially be released next Friday. But in reality, the game has been available since yesterday for those who pre-ordered the premium edition.
As a result, screenshots have been surfacing since yesterday… and not all of them are positive.
The player faces, for example, are causing quite a stir. EA Sports is increasingly trying to scan players to integrate their faces directly into the game.
Except that the re -
The CH’s summer in three questions, the main one being…
via dose.ca
Now that we've covered our top 15 most promising CH prospects, it would be good to revisit some summer topics that we've put on the back burner.
Here are three questions that still deserve some thought and answers before the next season kicks off! There are plenty of others, but hey, we have to keep it short…
So let's start with two quick appetizers before tackling THE big question as the main course!
1. Who will replace Brendan Gallagher as assistant captain?
The answer to this question -
Alexander Zharovsky was shut out in his first game of the season in the KHL
via dose.ca
Today marks the start of the KHL season, with several games on the schedule.
And of course, in Montreal, we're keeping a close eye on the Russian league. The Habs have several promising prospects playing there… even though Gleb Pugachyov, their most recent first-round pick, will start the season in the MHL instead.
That doesn't change the fact, however, that there are players to watch. And of course, Alexander Zharovsky is probably at the top of that list.
Zharovsky and Salavat Yulaev kic -
Corbin Burnes Returns Tuesday: A Boost for the Playoff Race
via dose.ca
Let’s take a look at the standings in the Nationale.
Four teams already have more than 80 wins and, barring a major collapse, should make the playoffs.
As for the Phillies, they're almost as close to winning their division as they are to missing the playoffs. They still have a little wiggle room.
Further down the standings, teams like the Marlins and the Cardinals shouldn't be written off too quickly… but they'll have to play at their absolute best to achieve their goals.

Quebec native David Gabriel Georges dominated in Georgia
via dose.ca
The future running back for the Tennessee Volunteers continues to make headlines. On Friday night, David Gabriel Georges once again showcased the full extent of his talent, this time in the Baylor School's 51-33 victory over Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School in Georgia.
Ranked 13th in USA TODAY Sports' national Super 25, Baylor remains undefeated after three games this season. For their first road game of 2026, however, the Red Raiders had to contend with a Rabun Gap-Nacoochee team that managed to keep -
Breaking News: Gleb Pugachyov is expected to start the season in the MHL
via dose.ca
Earlier this morning, I mentioned Gleb Pugachyov's situation—he had to sit out and watch his team play its first four games of the season without him, while also watching a fourth-round prospect from the same draft score his first career goal.
It's a shame for the Montreal Canadiens prospect, as he clearly would have liked to prove himself early in the season to show Montreal fans what he's capable of.
In the end, Pugachyov will have to wait before playing his first minutes of the season i -
This Week in History, 1945: The Flashlight Burglar targets Yvonne De Carlo's jewels
via vancouversun.com
It was all crime all the time in the Sept. 4, 1945, edition of The Vancouver Sun.The rest of the world was celebrating the signing of a peace treaty aboard the USS Missouri in Tokyo Bay that officially ended the Second World War.But locally, the banner story was that some “nogoodnik” had broken into a Kerrisdale home housing Vancouver’s first major movie star, Yvonne De Carlo.“Brazenly risking arrest, Vamcouver’s flashlight burglar paid two visits Monday — on -
Luis Campusano was the hero against the Yankees
via dose.ca
The San Diego Padres aren't firing on all cylinders these days, but yesterday, against the New York Yankees, Craig Stammen's men came through when it counted.
It was the team's catcher, Luis Campusano, who turned off the stadium lights with a thunderous two-run home run in the bottom of the tenth against Yankees reliever Paul Blackburn.
The Yankees were leading 2-1 at the time and were slowly but surely heading toward another victory in 2026. However, the Padres weren't done yet, and the outcome -
Surprise: Elliotte Friedman Is Close to Returning to Sportsnet
via dose.ca
The go-to source for news, rumors, and scoops in the National Hockey League and in hockey in general is, of course, Elliotte Friedman.
The renowned 55-year-old reporter is clearly the most credible and reliable source in the entire hockey world, no matter the topic—whether it's a trade, a signing, a contract extension, or even just rumors.
People want to know what Friedman has to say, and when he speaks, it resonates throughout the NHL.
It's no surprise, then, that Friedman is in high dema -
A Setback for Pugachyov: The Bruins’ Fourth-Round Pick Is Already Making a Name for Himself in the KHL
via dose.ca
For the third consecutive year, the Montreal Canadiens have set their sights on a Russian forward for their first pick in the National Hockey League draft.
Ivan Demidov (5th) in 2024, Alexander Zharovsky (34th) in 2025, and finally Gleb Pugachyov (26th) in 2026—this past summer.
Of course, now that Demidov is an integral part of the Habs and Zharovsky has had an excellent rookie season in the KHL, the player being watched most closely—and who must prove himself—is Pugachyov.

The Blue Jays are back in the .500 range
via dose.ca
The Toronto Blue Jays hadn't reached the .500 mark since last June. John Schneider's team had been struggling below the .500 mark for quite some time, but yesterday, against the Royals in Kansas City, things took a turn for the better.
The visitors cruised to a 9-2 victory, improving their record to 71-71.
Despite this important win, the Jays slipped slightly in the playoff standings because the Cleveland Guardians won both games against their rivals, the Detroit Tigers. The Guardians swept yest -
NHL 27: The Canadiens Have the Best Team Rating in the NHL
via dose.ca
In the world of hockey, September is obviously marked by the return of National Hockey League action, with each team kicking off training camp and playing preseason games.
What's more, this season, for the first time ever, the first regular-season games will take place in September, with the season kicking off on September 29.
In short, the start of the 2026–2027 season is really just around the corner.
But aside from the start of the season, there's something else noteworthy for hockey fa -
The Vert et Or took a real beating
via dose.ca
The University of Montreal Carabins couldn't have asked for a better start to their college football season. On Friday night, the defending RSEQ champions completely dominated the University of Sherbrooke Vert et Or, securing a convincing 53–21 victory.
From the very first minutes, the Montreal team set the pace and demonstrated why it remains one of the top favorites in Quebec's college football circuit. The offense, led by Marco Iadeluca, was particularly effective in the first half, as -
Expansion in Atlanta: A Major Development in the Project
via dose.ca
We've known for a while now that the NHL is planning to expand in a few years, with Houston at the top of the list.
But as the saying goes: things always come in threes.
And that could very well be the case for Atlanta, which has just taken a major step toward the potential return of a hockey team.
According to reports on the TVA Sports website, the development group The Gathering at South Forsyth has secured funding for a commercial, residential, and recreational complex in the city of Forsyth, -
Arber Xhekaj on the attack: his junior coach is (very) skeptical
via dose.ca
With less than two weeks to go before training camp begins, Arber Xhekaj has still not reached an agreement with the Canadiens (neither has Zachary Bolduc).
Since we have very few details about the negotiations, we can only speculate on why the two sides have not yet reached an agreement.
However, beyond the contract's value and duration, one might wonder if it isn't actually his role with the Habs that is the real point of contention between the two sides.
After four seasons in the NHL, the Hab -
Rumor Corner: Keep an eye on the Flyers for Quinn Hughes
via dose.ca
We're less than a month away from the start of the NHL season, and several teams still have work to do to be ready for the season opener.
Currently, several general managers are working hard to sign certain players or complete a trade by October.
Here are the latest rumors from across the National Hockey League.
The Flyers are reportedly interested in Quinn Hughes
Quinn Hughes, whom the Wild acquired last year, has yet to sign a contract extension with his current team, and many speculate that t -
Angels: Tarik Skubal Praises the New Owner’s Arrival
via dose.ca
As we know, Tarik Skubal will become a free agent at the end of the season. And since we're talking about one of the best pitchers in the world, his situation is obviously generating a lot of buzz.
The Tigers, apparently, weren't convinced they could sign him, so he was traded to the Dodgers just before the deadline.
Naturally, many people expect the Dodgers to try to keep him. However, it's unclear whether the saga involving owner Mark Walter will be a stumbling block in all of this.
That's why -
Monster Contract: Zeev Buium Signs for More Money Than Demidov and Hutson
via dose.ca
Big news in the NHL.
Just minutes ago, the Vancouver Canucks reached an agreement with Zeev Buium on the terms of a contract extension. The defenseman, acquired in the Quinn Hughes trade, has signed on for eight more years in Vancouver.
So, in an ideal world, he'll be the Canucks' defenseman of the future.
And clearly, the kid is going to be paid accordingly: he'll earn $9.38 million per year over the eight years of his contract.
That's more money than Ivan Demidov… and, more importantly, -
Shane Wright: Good News for the Kraken (Whose Wish Didn’t Come True)
via dose.ca
Shane Wright's situation has been a talking point in the NHL this summer. The young center, who saw his performance dip in 2025–26 (27 points in 74 games), asked the Kraken to trade him during the offseason.
And Jason Botterill, the general manager in Seattle, agreed to his request. So the question was: in whose uniform would he start the 2026–27 season?
The problem is that, as of today, Wright is still in Seattle. His name has been mentioned a bit in trade rumors, but no deal has be -
