The Las Vegas Raiders suffered an 18-12 loss to the San Francisco 49ers on Thursday night in a preseason game marked by a lackluster offensive performance and a flurry of field goals.
Rookie quarterback
Fernando Mendoza, in particular, had a mixed night.
Selected with the first overall pick in the most recent NFL Draft, Mendoza had the opportunity to continue his development with the Raiders. The Indiana-trained quarterback completed just seven of his 14 pass attempts for a total of 57 yards. He

“You’re an idiot”: Vladimir Guerrero Jr. defended by Myles Straw on X
via dose.ca
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. isn’t having a great season. That said, his team is still there to publicly defend him.
An example? When John Schneider said he didn't want to move him lower in the batting order because the offense needs to continue revolving around him.
But now Myles Straw has just provided another example.
Basically, he told Sid Seixeiro—who had criticized Vladdy—on Twitter that he was an idiot. And his tweet has been causing quite a stir ever since.

Highest-Paid NHL Defensemen: The Gap Between 1st and 2nd Is the Same as That Between 2nd and 84th
via dose.ca
Cale Makar has just signed a massive contract worth $20.4 million annually.
Will he be the highest-paid player on an annual basis for a long time to come? After all, Quinn Hughes is an unrestricted free agent next year and will command a hefty salary as well.
But right now, the difference between the highest-paid defenseman by annual salary (Makar) and the second-highest (Bowen Byram) is staggering.
Makar earns $20.4 million and Byram $12.5 million. That's a difference of $7.9 million.

Five Bold Predictions for the Upcoming NHL Season
via dose.ca
The next NHL season is coming up.
Last week, I posted an article in which I shared five hot takes ahead of the Canadiens' season.
Today, I'm going in a similar direction: I'm sharing my five bold NHL predictions for the upcoming season!
1: Connor McDavid will change his mind… and ask to be traded
Connor McDavid signed a two-year contract extension with the Oilers last season.
But you know what?
Things are going to go SO badly in Edmonton that by the trade deadline, #97 will ask his team t -

He wanted to be inducted into Cooperstown. He won't be able to do so in his lifetime.

Salut, Celine!
via laineygossip.com
It’s Friday afternoon, so let’s soar into the weekend on the wings of a dove, and that dove is Celine Dion in Paris. Celine is in Paris preparing for a concert run from September 12 to October 17, and she touched down in France and immediately began sharing the love with her fans. Which IS wonderful because Celine has shared her journey back to performing with us, and even as a casual Celine fan, I recognize the effort, passion, and commitment it’s taken her to get here, and en -
Hughes’s Debt to the Wild
via dose.ca
Quinn Hughes hasn’t forgotten what the Wild did to bring him to Minnesota.
And in a way, that could carry a lot of weight in the negotiations currently underway.
Because yes, Hughes has immense value on the market: he could certainly land a massive contract if he decided to maximize every dollar of his next deal. But…
But there's one small detail that completely changes the game: the Wild paid dearly to acquire the defenseman… and Hughes knows this all too well. He knows the -
Cristin Milioti in Buddy
via laineygossip.com
The backlash to the children’s program Barney & Friends is so historically severe it has its own Wikipedia entry. It’s mostly humorous, though rooted in real irritation at Barney’s annoying voice, the show’s saccharine, corny tone, and the horror older kids feel for anything meant for babies. Casper Kelly’s Buddy, featuring a bright orange unicorn that hosts a children’s show, stems from Barney’s well of discontent, though Kelly is also the writer/di -
We don’t talk about Otto Lopez enough
via dose.ca
A few years ago, the name Otto Lopez wasn't well known throughout the baseball world. Since then, however, the Quebec native has found his niche with the Miami Marlins, to the point where he is currently one of the best hitters in all of Major League Baseball.
Yet he doesn't get enough recognition, despite the fact that there's not much Lopez can't do on the baseball field.
In fact, the Dominican Republic native—who grew up in Quebec—is batting .308 with nine home runs, 59 RBIs, and -
Macklin Celebrini wanted to leave money on the table
via dose.ca
The Sharks still have a lot of work to do before they can seriously contend for the Stanley Cup. They need to add talent and develop their young players, but they're heading in the right direction.
Especially with Macklin Celebrini as the cornerstone of the organization.
It's no coincidence that the Sharks gave him such a lucrative contract ($18.8 million per season)—it's because they believe this young player can lead them to the promised land.
Celebrini, for his part, is happy with his d -

Tony Romo is facing three new traffic citations
via dose.ca
The case involving Tony Romo has taken a new turn.
The former
Dallas Cowboys
quarterback
, now a star NFL analyst for CBS Sports, is now facing three additional charges following his arrest in Wisconsin in July.
Romo, 46, was arrested on July 23 on Highway 43 in Milwaukee County. Authorities accused him, among other things, of refusing to submit to a toxicology test after his arrest. However, the case was amended this week with the addition of new charges.

There's been a lot of talk about Corey Pronman in recent days.
His recent rankings have sparked a lot of discussion… which is always the case year after year.
But this morning, the expert from The Athletic published an article in which he acknowledges his mistakes regarding the 2022 draft. And of course, you can imagine he took the opportunity to talk about Lane Hutson.
Basically, Pronman put Hutson at the top of his list of biggest misjudgments for the 2022 draft. He explains that he und -

This morning, the sad news of Jacques Doucet’s passing shook Quebec.
Expos fans, who were captivated by his voice, are obviously deeply saddened by today's news.
Mr. Doucet, who has joined Rodger Brulotte in heaven, is currently at the center of a huge outpouring of love across the province.

Earlier this year, Romanian filmmaker Cristian Mungiu’s English-language debut, Fjord, picked up the Palme d’Or at Cannes. It is Mungiu’s second Palme, following his 2007 film, 4 luni, 3 săptămâni și 2 zile (4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days), an absolutely harrowing film about young women and abortion in 1980s Romania. All of Mungiu’s films are emotionally devastating in some way, and Fjord looks no different.A trailer for the film dropped yesterday, show -

The Calgary Stampeders will have to adjust their offensive plans for Saturday's matchup against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.
The Alberta team
will be without its starting quarterback, Vernon Adams Jr., who will be unable to play in the game.
The veteran was placed on the Stampeders' reserve list on Friday. This decision clears the way for Josh Love, who will make his first start in the Canadian Football League (CFL).

Kent Hughes’ Next Challenge

Unless proven otherwise, the Canadiens will start the upcoming season with essentially the same lineup as the one we saw in the most recent playoffs.
In Nick Suzuki's view, that's good news.
We can all agree that it's not the end of the world, but we also agree that the Montreal Canadiens fell short of their offseason goals.
So what's next? Ideally, it would be a trade.
But in the long run, the Canadiens can't always rely solely on trades to improve their team. After all, many teams are looking -
The first Triple Crown since 2012?

After parting ways with their general manager, Dana Brown, the Houston Astros can now focus on baseball for the rest of the season, as they are in the thick of the race for a spot in the postseason.
But the race for the playoffs isn't the only thing to watch with the Texas team, as Yordan Alvarez continues to build his case for the American League MVP award.

As of yesterday, this is no longer just a rumor; Connor Hellebuyck has publicly stated that he wants to play for another team because he wants to win. What would happen if the Jets were to trade Connor Hellebuyck?
Obviously, it would be difficult for them to get a return that would allow them, right now, to be just as good heading into the 2026–2027 National Hockey League season.
After all, the goaltender is among the league's elite.
Naturally, the Jets would have to consider a rebuild. I don't know if that's really what will happen, but it remains a logical possibility on the table.
And that's true even though I'm not sure the Winnipeg -
