  • Sheehan’s precarious work motion passes

    MP Terry Sheehan’s motion to define precarious work and help Canadians struggling has passed in the House of Commons.
    The motion passed unanimously 293-0.
    A standing Committee on Human Resources, Skills and Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities will now begin work to address precarious employment in Canada.
    Sheehan said he’s pleased to have received support from all members of the house, Liberals, Conservatives, NDP, Block, Green and Independents.

    A celebration of youth and the arts will take place Saturday at the Civic Centre.
    The fourth annual Mayor’s Youth Advisory Council (MYAC) youth art gala will feature visual arts, photography and short films by local arts between the ages of 13 and 25.
    In addition, hors d’oeurves and desserts will be featured by the hospitality program at Superior Heights.
    Tickets are $10 and the gala takes place from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.
    Proceeds will support the Neighbourhood Resource Centre.

    Firefighters respond to a conveyor belt blaze at Lafarge Canada’s ready-mix plant on Industrial Park A on Thursday morning.
