    Sault Ste. Marie will soon be the host of the first of its kind and largest Smart Grid system in North America.
    Sault MP Terry Sheehan announced $11.8 million of grants for PUC Distribution Inc’s smart grid project.
    The entire project, the rest of which will be funded by Infrastructure Energy, will cost $50 million.
    Infrastructure Energy CEO Glenn Martin says his company is the developer and financial partner for the project.
    The funding comes from the Smart Grid Program, which is part of

  • Man dies in Studio 10 blaze

    A 60-year-old man who was transported to hospital as a result of injuries he sustained in an early morning fire Sunday at Studio 10 has died.
    Police have not released the man’s name.  His cause death has not been determined.
    Police and fire officials are continuing to determine the source of the fire.
    The investigation is continuing.
    Fire services were called to the Hudson Street location at about 11:20 p.m. Sunday night for a fire which burned down the city’s only entertainment

  • CAO Al Horsman and City to part ways at end of contract

    CAO Al Horsman and the City of Sault Ste. Marie will part ways when Horsman’s contract expires Sept. 28.
    The city will not renew the contract for a second four-year term. Horsman will continue his duties until his contract expires.

    CAO Al Horsman and the City of Sault Ste. Marie will be parting ways when his contract expires Sept. 28.
    The Sault Star has learned that the City will not be renewing Horsman’s contract for a second four-year term. Sources say the decision was “mutually agreed upon” and the CAO will continue his duties to the end of his contract.
    Instead, council is expected to launch a search committee for a replacement.  That process is expected to begin immediately.
