• Fence fire spreads to home and garage fire in Blackburn Hamlet

  The Ottawa fire department responded to several 911 calls of a house fire in Blackburn Hamlet on Monday afternoon.
  A fire believed to have originated on a fence at 5 Northpark Dr. spread to a garage and then the home. Fire crews were greeted by heavy black smoke coming from the house and flames on the second floor and immediately declared a second alarm working fire.
  The fire was under control by 3:25 p.m. There were no reported injuries.

  Ottawa Police and intelligence agencies are investigating a series of online threats made to Carleton University over the weekend.
  Police said on Monday the initial investigation revealed the threats are “not credible” and determined there is no threat to public safety.

• Firefighters battle three late night blazes

  Firefighters battled three separate fires late Saturday and early Sunday morning.
  Firefighters were called to 1465 Caldwell Avenue at 9:14 p.m., where flames were visible from a 7th storey balcony. The fire spread from the balcony into the apartment. No one was home at the time and damage was estimated to be $50,000. No one was injured.

• Canoeists rescued from Ottawa River

  Four people were rescued from the Ottawa River Sunday evening after the canoe they were paddling in capsized.
  The incident occurred shortly before 7 p.m. in the vicinity of the Deschênes Rapids. Three of the canoeists were able to swim back to shore, while the fourth was rescued by Ottawa Fire Services water rescue team. All four were wearing flotation devices.
