A fire at a student residence in Sandy Hill near the University of Ottawa early Saturday has left 12 people homeless.
Ottawa Fire Services responded to reports of smoke on the third floor of the residence on 181 Henderson Ave. shortly before 3 a.m. Firefighters found a fire on the third floor had started and spread into the floor. Twelve residents were displaced, according to a news release. A fire investigator was at the scene.
The building is a house built as a private residence for students.

Ottawa Police say they have located a man from Kanata who had been reported missing Saturday morning.
Kevin Egan, 33, was found “safe and sound” Saturday afternoon, said a release from Ottawa Police Service around 4 p.m. Earlier in the day, they had appealed for the public’s help to find the man.

Police investigate shooting early Saturday morning
A man was taken to hospital after being shot at a residence in Overbrook early Saturday morning.
Police responded to a call around 2 a.m. Saturday and found the man inside a residence suffering from a gunshot wound. He had non life-threatening injuries, according to a release from the Ottawa Police Services.
No suspects are in custody. The police guns and gangs unit is investigating.

Firefighters remove person trapped after crash
A person was seriously injured after a head-on collision Friday evening at Saumure and Russell roads in Ottawa’s east end.
Firefighters used extrication equipment to remove the person from one of two vehicles involved in the crash.

Gatineau police officer charged with uttering threats against city employees
A Gatineau police officer has been charged with harassing and uttering threats against City of Gatineau employees.
Jonathan Lévesque was arrested as he arrived at work at the City of Gatineau Police Service on Friday morning.
Police allege the officer threatened to cause death or bodily harm to members of city staff on Feb. 27, while he was on duty at the police department. He faces two charges.

Gatineau man taken to hospital after 'targeted' home invasion, police say
A Gatineau man was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries Thursday after what police are calling a “targeted” home invasion.
The injured man is in his 50s.
Gatineau police were called to a residence on Rue de Chazel on Thursday evening and remained on the scene throughout Friday to protect the residence.
No arrests had been made.
