The B.C. Court of Appeal has rejected a bid by two B.C. brothers accused of drug smuggling in Washington state to halt their extradition to the U.S.
Oscar Edgardo Mendoza and Rember Oswaldo Guevara-Mendoza are accused of conspiring to smuggle large quantities of cocaine and ecstasy across the border.
They were ordered extradited in June 2016, but filed an appeal of that B.C. Supreme Court ruling.
Mendoza and Guevara-Mendoza appealed both the extradition order and a later decision by the justice

via vancouversun.comA chance encounter in an Istanbul café with a mysterious man named Mike has landed a Slovakian woman in a B.C. prison for three years.
Iveta Scheuer, 50, has been convicted of smuggling 2.6 kilos of opium into Canada in late 2016, hidden in the sides of two suitcases.
When the opium was discovered by airport officials, Scheuer claimed she had no idea what she’d been carrying. She also gave two different versions of how and why she had come to B.C.

Nanaimo RCMP arrested 34-year-old Jordan Shepherd after officers found him at 2:30 a.m. sleeping in a car parked outside a motel.
Shepherd, also known as Dave Rofter, faces five counts of fraud under $5,000 in Nanaimo, one count of fraud in Ladysmith and another count of fraud in New Westminster.

Inquest to be held into Surrey death of Deanna Desjarlais
via vancouversun.comThe BC Coroners Service will hold an inquest into the death of Deanna Desjarlais, whose body was found in Surrey two years ago.
The 27-year-old Saskatoon woman was missing for five months before her body was identified as one found months earlier in a wooded area of Hawthorne Park.
The inquest will begin on May 7 at the Burnaby coroners’ court in Metrotown.
The coroner says Desjarlais was a member of the Kawacatoose First Nation, who came to B.C. in 2015.
