Makeover: New look and style for retired pharmacist
via vancouversun.comMarybeth Dirauf, 68, is a retired pharmacist looking for a style update.
Marybeth has naturally wavy hair which was previously highlighted. It was feeling flat and shapeless, and she wanted a style to compliment her face shape. I placed foil highlights throughout her hair in a pivoted diagonal forward placement around the front of her face to brighten and soften her complexion. For her background foundation colour, I selected a warm copper brown to add depth and to enhance her hazel- -

Women in Metro Vancouver receiving threatening phone calls
via vancouversun.comMounties are warning that women across Metro Vancouver have been receiving a series of threatening phone calls believed to be linked.
RCMP say the calls started last year, with a male caller accurately identifying the woman by name and address, and then claiming he has been watching her through cameras installed inside her home.
The caller then demands the woman engage in sexually explicit conversation with him, or the victim or a family member would be killed. Investigators say women have descr -

Week 5: Nearing the home stretch
via vancouversun.comAs we enter week 5, I am confronted by two very important facts:I am not a morning person.
Sun Run clinic leaders NEVER cancel training runs.Vancouver’s recent snowmageddon threw us a bit off track last week, literally. Ice and snow on the False Creek seawall made it too risky to run outside. Our Saturday morning run was cancelled and I got the rare opportunity to sleep in. I secretly did a little dance, drank a shake and then headed for the relative warmth of the gym.
Unlike me, my husban -
BBB's Top 10 scams of 2017
via vancouversun.comIf it sounds too good to be true it probably is.
That’s the advice once again from the Better Business Bureau, as on Wednesday it released its annual Top 10 scams of 2017.
Topping the list last year were online purchase scams, followed by wire fraud, and online dating scams. The year before, employment scams topped the list but that now sits at No. 4. The BBB says millennials are most likely to fall for the fake job offers.
Danielle Primrose, president of BBB serving -

Karen Barnaby: The wonders of bread culture
via vancouversun.comI’m a great admirer of good breads and the people who create them. Bread culture has developed in amazing ways, from using the super-hydration technique to create a supple, chewy loaf, to the people who reestablished heritage wheat such as Red Fife, and the keepers of sourdough culture.
There’s a whole other bread movement, I suppose you could call it “alternative bread” because we’re so used to the white and wheaty stuff. These breads are grain and seed packed, gen -

Harrison Mooney: Are Canucks fans the real problem in Vancouver?
via vancouversun.comWhy are the Canucks so bad? Is it because Jim Benning and Trevor Linden have assembled a very weak team, failed to reinvigorate the lineup with the speed and skill necessary in today’s NHL, and done little to instil confidence in their rebuild among the fanbase?
Some would say yes. But in saying so, perhaps over and over again on Twitter, are you part of the problem?
On Tuesday, Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman implied as much, suggesting the vitriol the management group is facing -
Website search function for a doctor dropped due to outdated information
via vancouversun.comThe College of Physicians and Surgeons of B.C. will on Thursday delete a function on its website that was the only one of its kind in Canada for helping patients find family doctors accepting new patients.

MEC ponders requests to stop selling wares from US gun manufacturer Vista Outdoor
via vancouversun.comPressure is mounting on Mountain Equipment Co-op to stop carrying outdoor gear brands owned by Vista Outdoor, a Utah-based gun and ammunition company.
The Vancouver-based company said it is exploring its options after hearing from about 5,500 members on whether to pull Vista Outdoor brands, including CamelBak, Bolle, Bushnell, Camp Chef and Jimmy Styks, from its shelves. But its slow pace was met with frustration by some customers.

Iglika Ivanova: How technology affects workers is up to us
via vancouversun.comWhile many workers of our parents’ generation expected to spend their entire careers in a permanent full-time job with one or two employers, younger workers today are increasingly faced with project-based or limited-term employment options. The very structure of what a job looks like is changing as technology unbundles traditional occupations into smaller tasks that can be performed by workers located anywhere in the world.
Unlike the industry giants of the 20th century that employed large -
Vaughn Palmer: Documents link Kinder Morgan Strategy Group to militant environmental activists
via vancouversun.comVICTORIA — At first hearing, the Action Hive sounds like something out of a kid’s role-playing game or perhaps the handle for a particularly aggressive group of beekeepers.
But lately it has figured prominently in the B.C. Liberal challenge to Environment Minister George Heyman for dining out with anti-pipeline activists on Jan. 30, the very day he launched his regulatory drive against the Kinder Morgan project.
