East Ferris Volunteer Fire Department responded to a structure fire on Montcalm Lane Wednesday around 10 a.m.
Fire Chief Frank Loeffen said when crews arrived on scene there was heavy smoke coming out of the eaves of the single-story home and flames out the back of the building.
“Both occupants evacuated the home and firefighters extinguished the fire quite quickly,” he said.

Chance Wilson, 22, of Hamilton and Robert Campbell, 75, of Powassan are charged with race motor vehicle – stunt.
Both drivers’ licences were seized and the vehicles were towed from the scene and impounded for seven days. The two drivers were released by way of summons. They are scheduled to appear at court on May 3 in North Bay. -
