Snow continues to be removed from West Ferris arena roof
Snow has had to be removed from the flat roof and canopies of the West Ferris Arena five times so far this winter.
Structural problems with the roof at the West Ferris arena, along with other issues with the building were identified in a 2015 report.
In the report it found the barrel section of the arena’s roof over the ice surface can’t sustain more than 150 millimetres of snow.

Ski hill closing early today
Laurentian Ski Hill will close at 5 p.m. today “due to the up and down weather conditions.”
Ski hill manager Cam Graham said the hills will reopen at noon Friday.
“Conditions are excellent but due to the very warm overnight temperatures we are unable to groom until later Friday morning,” Graham says.
The changes also mean a luau/Ukelele Club event has been moved to Feb. 27. -

Break-in suspects sought by police
The North Bay Police Service is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying two suspects in a break and enter at a Main Street W business Monday.
Police say officers called to the scene in the early morning observed signs of forced entry. It was determined that two suspects entered the store and made off with multiple items including collectible coins, money, and jewelry. The value is yet to be determined.

Weather warning doesn't stop school buses from running in other Northern cities
Buses were running in Northern Ontario under the same weather warning Thursday that kept North Bay and Area kids home.
The freezing rain warning which was issued for North Bay was also issued for Sudbury and Timmins, however their buses were running.
Only students residing on Manitoulin Island who use bus transportation were dismissed early Thursday due to the “fast-approaching and long period of freezing rain.”
