Fresh in Montreal: blueberries and raspberries have arrived
Eating Quebec-grown raspberries and blueberries is like biting into summer, says Sabrina Racine.
“It just tastes like summer,” said Racine, the daughter of Daniel Racine, the owner of Racine Petits Fruits.”It’s like sun that you eat.”
On Thursday, the Racines received their first crop of wild blueberries from the forests of Abitibi, heralding the beginning of blueberry season. It was the second week for raspberries at the Jean-Talon market, mostly from St-Eustache, -

Stu Cowan: It appears unlikely Andrei Markov will return to Canadiens
Andrei Markov got married last week in Russia, but the honeymoon will have to wait.
“There was no honeymoon. There’s no time for that … once he’s done playing,” said Sergei Berezin, the former NHLer who is one of Markov’s closest friends, an adviser and his off-season trainer. “He took three or four days off to get married, came back and boom! Back to work. That’s the kind of person he is.”
Berezin was talking on the phone from South Florida -

Editorial: Montreal needs a 'traffic czar'
In April, the appointment of Pierre Lacasse as Montreal’s traffic spokesman was announced by Mayor Denis Coderre with great fanfare.
Some dismissed it as a public relations exercise, a way for the city to deflect citizens’ frustrations with traffic chaos resulting from poorly co-ordinated roadwork.
Perhaps, but there was — and is — a crying need for someone to ensure roadwork is better co-ordinated and properly marked, and that citizens are adequately informed -

What the Puck: Canadiens debate shows Habs Nation is bitterly divided
It’s a nation divided. I’m not talking about our neighbours to the south, a country split down the middle for years between red and blue states.
I’m talking about the Habs Nation. In a curious kind of way, it’s a people divided in a similar fashion to the Republican/Democrat partition in the U.S.
On the one side you have the pro-Bergevin crew. These are Canadiens fans who believe that Montreal general manager Marc Bergevin is moving our team in the right direction and are -

Inside the CFL: Stamps' Andrew Buckley hopes to dispel Canadian QB stereotype
The guy who is one injury away from becoming the Calgary Stampeders’ starting quarterback has a picture on his cellphone of himself as a kid, wearing the team’s iconic red jersey at McMahon Stadium.

Quebecers are not used to being asked to vote for politicians who look like Jagmeet Singh. He wears colourful turbans and has a long, dark beard, symbols of his Sikh faith. And he is a serious contender for the leadership of the federal New Democratic Party.
Some Quebec New Democrats are concerned that if Singh wins the leadership, voters in this province will reject their party. Considering the evidence, including their own recent experience, that concern is understandable.

Welcome back to the jungle: the 1992 Metallica/Guns N' Roses debacle
Happy anniversary, Montreal. Looks like you owe Axl Rose some silver.
Perhaps a nice platter, inscribed “Memories 08.08.92!” with one of those wedding bonfire sunsets.
A plated Colt pistol and sterling-dipped natural rose for the literalists out there.
Or maybe a silver photo frame with a picture of the Guns N’ Roses singer storming off the Big O stage on Aug. 8, 1992, split-screened with the merry sight of T-shirt pyres lighting up that cavernous hellhole. Summertime!
