Concert review: Barr Brothers take lineup change in stride
Things didn’t entirely go according to plan for Montreal’s Barr Brothers Friday night at Theatre Maisonneuve, but in their inimitable, resourceful style, they somehow found a way to get all the pieces to fit.
The skilled folk and blues rockers were originally supposed to be joined on stage by Malian husband and wife duo Bassekou Kouyate and Amy Sacko, but at the last minute they were unable to make it across the Atlantic. Instead, Burkinabé balafonist Mamadou Koita and Senegal -

Shelter: Montreal dancers make a savvy move
Erin O’Loughlin and Geneviève Boulet are soulmates — though not in the romantic sense. They are both contemporary dancers and when it comes to creative ideas, they’re nearly always on the same wave length. Their energy and enthusiasm for their métier is infectious, and their passion comes through during our conversation about the Montreal apartment they call home.
They met while attending a modern dance workshop in Tel Aviv. Although both lived in Montreal, where -
The Week in Review: Radulov hits the road, Galchenyuk signs, and an embattled MUHC
A look back at some of the top news stories this past week:
Stu Cowan: Canadiens fans will miss Alexander Radulov and his smile
Alexander Radulov definitely has enough money now to buy a good set of false teeth.
The Russian forward with the loveable gap-toothed smile decided to leave the Canadiens on Monday, signing a five-year, US$31.25-million free-agent deal with the Dallas Stars. The contract is worth an average of $6.25 million a year, or $500,000 more than he earned on a one-year contract -
Freed: Crosswalk your heart and hope not to die
I was walking by a pedestrian crosswalk on St-Laurent Blvd, near Schwartz’s, last week when I suddenly got the urge to try something I’ve never done before.
Cross on a crosswalk.
I poised at the edge of the yellow-striped crosswalk, then planted my leg firmly onto the road like a good citizen of Vancouver, where cars instantly screech to a halt for you, half a block away.
But instead I had to yank my leg back in, as two lanes of speeding Montreal traffic roared inches by it — p -

Jazz fest: Expect high energy from Anderson .Paak in blowout concert
TOP PICK
Anderson .Paak and the Free Nationals (9:30 p.m., TD Stage, Place des Festivals, free). Paak’s highly impressive disc Malibu, released last year, was a sonic delight, mixing rap, R&B and classic soul in a tour de force of style and production that somehow retained a future-jazz looseness. Prediction: while such audio perfectionism will be lost in a large outdoor blowout situation, expect the band to compensate with live energy.ALSO:
