P.K. Subban was at Andrei Markov's wedding, and now we're crying
This is probably not the news about longtime Montreal Canadiens defenceman and free agent Andrei Markov you were waiting for.
Nevertheless, there is Andrei Markov news, and it involves his marriage to Sonya Sonechka.
While that couple’s relationship was the main subject of their nuptial, the occasion was also marked by the reunion of Markov and his former Habs teammate, P.K. Subban.
After the ceremony, Subban took to social media to express his best wishes for the new -

What the Puck: It's status quo for Habs and that's not good enough
If you’re a Habs fan, there’s only one question you should be mulling over: Are your Montreal Canadiens a better team after the madness of draft day/free agency wheeling-and-dealing compared with the squad that started the season last October?
I’d say they’re at best the same and more likely a little weaker. The Kool-Aid-swilling, pro-Marc Bergevin types will, of course, start nattering on about how Montreal won the Atlantic Division and ended the season with an impressiv -
Beating at reserve playground reopens discussion about lack of ambulances
Ghislain Picard, the chief of the Assembly of First Nations of Quebec and Labrador (AFNQL), said communities like Manawan, a reserve 250 kilometres north of Montreal, need better access to ambulance services.
“Once a service is defined as an essential service, the community should have access,” he said on Friday.
His comments come in light of an incident in the Atikamekw community in Manawan on Tuesday. Chief Constant Awashish of the Atikamekw Nation Council said two young broth -

Why are people walking around Montreal in red body paint?
You may have seen them: A group of men and women wearing nothing but underwear and shoes, clad from head to toe in red body paint, and wheeling around a red suitcase.
You may then have done the obvious and rational thing and wondered why on earth anyone might do such a thing.
You may even have wondered if these strange apparitions were a spin-off of the Blue Man Group or the creations of someone who enjoyed the body paint scene in Goldfinger but forgot that the painted woman in question di -

Just for Laughs: Netflix and standup comedy's symbiotic relationship
It’s a marriage made in standup heaven: Netflix and comedy in general, and Netflix and the Just for Laughs festival in particular.
Talk about a symbiotic relationship. Netflix and comedy feed on one another seamlessly and equally.
Netflix specials help spike attendance at live comedy events — like Just for Laughs — by raising awareness about standups, both established and on the rise. And live comedy events provide Netflix with the opportunity to shoot and stream specials by st -
Just for Laughs: Judd Apatow stays humble in his standup
One of the major plot points in the new romantic comedy The Big Sick has a struggling Chicago-based standup trying to impress a talent scout from the Montreal comedy festival. The comedian, played by the hilarious Kumail Nanjiani, is unsuccessful in winning over fest scout Bob (a not so thinly veiled Robbie Praw, former Just for Laughs programming chief), largely because his girlfriend is big-time sick.
Irony abounds here. Nanjiani has performed several times at JFL. So has the film’s prod -

Barker: Two-week break a welcome respite for weary Impact
Teams never want to play poorly, especially in a game that precedes an extended mid-season break. But that’s exactly what the Montreal Impact did in Houston on Wednesday night as they head into a two-week break while the CONCACAF Gold Cup is being played.
The Impact lost 3-1 to the Dynamo and never looked in contention to get anything from the match. It was a complete change of events from the team’s convincing performance against D.C. United last Saturday at Saputo Stadium, where th -
NDP leadership campaign drops online ad featuring Roch Voisine – repor
The campaign organization of NDP leadership hopeful Jagmeet Singh has pulled an online video featuring the music of New Brunswick singer Roch Voisine after the artist objected to its use, the Journal de Montreal reported Friday.
In the ad, Singh, recalls how Voisine’s music helped him learn to speak French when growing up in the 1990s, a step Singh says he took in solidarity with francophone Quebecers.
However the ad was quickly pulled after Voisine objected, saying he has never allowed hi -

Nuits d’Afrique has brought the world home to Montreal
Tiken Jah Fakoly was an aspiring reggae star when he arrived from Ivory Coast to headline an outdoor concert at the Festival International Nuits d’Afrique in 2000. In a well-told story, he was bedridden in a Montreal hotel room recuperating from malaria for three days before he “willed” himself onstage at Place Émilie-Gamelin.
“That concert is the one that has most marked my career,” Fakoly told the Montreal Gazette in 2012.
And so a legend was born.
